11/21/2022The Bulgarian Professional Football League is now part of the Association of European Leagues
The Bulgarian Professional Football League was officially accepted as a member of the Association of European Leagues, alongside the Albanian and Maltese Football Leagues.
The president of the league Atanas Karaivanov, as well as the executive director of CSKA - Dobrin Gionov, who is a member of the Management Board of the BPFL and is responsible for the organization's international relations, played a serious role in the acceptance of the BPFL into the Association's family. It was welcomed as a new member at the European Leagues Association General Assembly on 17 and 18 November in Porto, where Karaivanov and Gionov represented the BPFL. The assembly was organized with the help of the Portuguese League at the mythical stadium of Porto - "Estadio do Dragao".
Thus, the Bulgarian Professional Football League takes its place as a member of the Association alongside the biggest football leagues in the world, responsible for championships such as the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1 and many more. The prestigious organization European Leagues represents a total of 40 football leagues from 34 countries in Europe. The association was founded in 2005, protecting the interests of over 1000 clubs in the continent. The headquarters of the European Leagues is in Nyon, Switzerland.
"I believe that our participation in this association will give us the opportunity to make great strides in the development of Bulgarian football, as we will have the opportunity to learn from the practices of other leagues in Europe and gain invaluable knowledge and experience." I was very impressed by the attitude of the representatives of the major championships such as the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A towards our delegation, as they repeatedly expressed their willingness to help us with advice and established practices. Naturally, to begin with, it is good to gain experience from countries with similar opportunities to ours, such as the Polish Ekstraklasa and the Slovakian Fortuna Liga, which in recent years have achieved impressive results," Gionov said upon his arrival in Sofia.
